If your ISDN adapter will allow you to connect a regular telephone, called a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Set), you may be able to order your ISDN service and add Supplementary Voice Services. Supplementary Voice Services allow you to use your POTS phone at home to do some of the cool things you can do at the at the office. Buffer likes these features because it makes him feel like a real executive. Be sure your ISDN adapter supports these Supplementary Voice Services features before ordering them. Below are some of the features you can order with ISDN.
If your ISDN adapter will allow you to connect a regular telephone, called a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Set), you should also be able to connect either a FAX machine or a modem. Buffer has both a FAX and a POTS phone connected to his ISDN adapter. He then uses the two different phone numbers of the ISDN line to keep them separate. He gives one number out to FAX callers and uses the other phone number for voice communications. In [the name of the section instead of number] of this section Buffer and I discuss how his ISDN adapter automatically allocates bandwidth from his ISDN data calls to allow incoming and outgoing voice and FAX transmissions. <-- previous | page 6 | next --> |
